Back in 1962 BOLARUS S.A. was established as the Refrigeration Appliances Manufacturing Plant, an affiliate of the local Installation and Overhaul Company, operating within the organisational framework of the Regional Retail Trade Enterprise, a state-owned company in Krakow. Initially the Company was involved with the overhaul and servicing of the refrigeration units operated by the retail outlets owned by the state enterprise.
In the course of time the Company started the production of its own line of refrigeration appliances, based on the designs developed by its own engineering staff. As of January 1, 1965, the Company was restructured into a separate business entity and for the next 10 years to come was manufacturing a range of refrigeration appliances reaching the capacity of several thousand annually. Following its comprehensive modernisation in 1974-76, the Company's manufacturing capacity went up to 20.000 units annually.
Until December 31, 1991 the Company remained within the state ownership, and was subsequently transformed into a company owned entirely by the State Treasury, following a major nationwide ownership restructuring drive. On September 12, 1995, the Company was brought into the ownership fold of the E. Kwiatkowski National Investment Fund. As of May 1, 1999, the Company's official name is BOLARUS S.A.
In September 2002 and July 2003 Polish National Investment Funds and Polish Tresaury transferred their shares of BOLARUS SA to "WICA" - a wholesaler and industrial service provider. Tday, "WICA" holds over 86%of Company's shares. Other BOLARUS SA shares are hold by employees.
